Spurgeon’s revelation of ‘Divine Love’

shulamite.jpg

Or should I say Spurgeon’s Divine Romance, encountering the truth of us as the bride, through the book Song of Solomon, a book that’s mostly been misunderstand and discarded through church age.

Spurgeon allows us a glimpse into his personal encounter with the heavenly bridegroom. Allow this to escort us, into a personal journey into the affections of God for us His Shulamite.

C.H.Spurgeon [the great 19th century preacher]“on the song of Solomon: ‘The true believer who has lived near to his Master will find this book to be a mass, not of gold merely, for all God’s word is this, but a mass of diamonds sparkling with brightness; and all thing thou canst conceive not to be compared with it for its matchless worth. If I must prefer one book above another, I would prefer some books of the Bible for doctrine, some for experience, and some for example, some for teaching, but let me prefer this book above all others for fellowship and communion.  When the Christian is nearest to heaven, this is the book he takes with him.

Song of Solomon 2:4-5He brought me into His banqueting house, and His banner over me was love. [as opposed to religion or ministry, but Love]

We are the unique object of His love

Augustine said“man will never rest until he finds his rest in God.”

Or as Benjamin Nolot says, “until he finds his identity in God.”

Identity is the truth about who we are in God and the revelation of who we are from Gods perspective.

John 17:23……You [the Father] have sent Me [Jesus], and have loved them [us] as You have loved Me [Jesus].God Loves us with the same as He loves the His only Son!

Jn17:24 “Father I desire [Jesus] ……[we]may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My Glory One defining aspect which directs us into every other place is His Desire for us, His love for us, His jealously over us and for our attention.

If we are living apart from this revelation we are living in the slums of spiritual poverty.

Two missing dimensions of most of us today are: the knowledge of God [who He is]

and our identity in whom He created us to be. I am my Beloved’s and His desire [passionate and affectionate longing] is toward me.

-Song of Solomon 7:10

Let me prefer this book above all others for fellowship and communion – Spurgeon, on the Song of Solomon

With a statement such as this from a man of such insight, demands many revists until……!

  1. Spurgeon was too a Man After God’s Own Heart! I love this quote because some who might disagree with our emphasis on the Bridal Paradigm in SOS would never disagree with Spurgeon.

  2. Hi there

Thank you yet again for these inspired words. I could read them all day. I would love to hear you preach a sermon. Ontologist
